Before I start uploading photos of our trip to Hawaii and going on about how amazing it was, I'd like to take a moment to appreciate being home.

The winter here is cold. And dark. Sometimes it feels like it's never going to end. But then there are those lovely clear frosty mornings, when everyone else is tucked up in the warm and you get a beautiful glassy surf almost to yourself. They make it all worth it.

  1. I've always lived and surfed in the sub-tropics, so it's hard for me to imagine what it's like to surf when it's so cold. I wonder how I would go if I had to move..?

  3. When the surf's looking good you forget about the cold.

I had my first post-holiday surf this weekend, I was kind of dreading having to wear a wetsuit again but I'm so used to it that it didn't matter in the end. Water temp here is around 9°C / 48F at the moment; wetsuits are so good these days you don't really feel it, as long as you don't get your head under too many times in a row anyway.
